Bethel Baptist Ministry Intern Program and Pastoral Internship
Don’t just learn how to preach. Learn how to pastor.
Seminary provides a rich theological foundation. The local church shapes pastoral intuition, heart, and endurance. The Bethel Baptist Ministry Intern Program and Pastoral Internship invites MDIV and undergraduate students pursuing ministry to step out of the classroom and into the life of a church family where ministry is lived, not simulated.
This internship is not about filling roles or running programs. It is about being formed in the care of souls. Grounded in a gospel centered philosophy of ministry, the program intentionally bridges academic training with the relational and practical realities of shepherding people in everyday life.
Year One Pastoral Formation
The first year emphasizes presence before platform. Interns focus on learning the culture and life of the church through the study of church polity, a structured listening tour with members and leaders, and observation of elder meetings where theology meets real pastoral decision making. Formation comes before function. Limited teaching and preaching opportunities may be introduced toward the end of the first year, including participation in sermon review and feedback.
Year Two Proclamation and Leadership
The second year centers on speaking and leading within the context of established relationships. Interns develop sermons that are exegetically faithful and pastorally applied, receive hands on training in ordinances and ceremonies, and assume responsibility for a defined area of ministry under elder oversight. Regular meetings with the pastor and elder team provide intentional feedback and guidance, helping shape the first years of pastoral ministry as interns prepare to plant, pastor, or revitalize a church after leaving Bethel Baptist Church.
Our Goal
We aim to send men into ministry shaped by real pastoral life. Our desire is that interns leave with wisdom, humility, and readiness to lead, revitalize, or plant churches with confidence and grace.
