Context: The Sermon on the Mount & Kingdom Flourishing** – Jesus teaches what it means to live as citizens of God’s kingdom – Flourishing is bearing spiritual fruit (Psalm 1; Matthew 5–7) **2. The Eye as the Lamp: Two Interpretations** – Modern: The eye brings in light (external influence) – Biblical: The eye reveals what’s inside (internal condition) **3. What Do Your Eyes Reveal?** – A healthy eye = generosity, single-minded devotion (Proverbs 22:9) – A diseased eye = greed, comparison, self-centeredness (Deut. 15:9; Matt. 20) **4. The Danger of Self-Deception** – Jeremiah 17:9 — “The heart is deceitful above all things” – Matthew 7:21 — “Not everyone who says ‘Lord, Lord’…” **5.
